Brand Story

Hacoa Story

Born in 2001, Hacoa is an original woodwork brand of us.
Our studio, later became Hacoa was established in 1962 by Ryoji Yamaguchi, the first ever certified traditional wood craftsman in Japan.

Located in the region which has been a production center of renowned Echizen Lacquerware for over 1500 years, our specialty was a creation of unfinished wooden boxes, such as square trays and stackable lunch boxes. The wood base is a critical element that determines the fundamental quality and lifespan of lacquerware. Knowledge and skills acquired over the years allowed us to perform high accuracy on wood.

Hacoa has been designing and manufacturing a wide range of products including interior accessories, kitchenware, stationery, and gears for computers and mobiles. The 'Hacoa' brand name is a combination of 'Haco' meaning 'box' and the well-known connotation of ‘A’ as ‘first class.’ Developing something new with sensibility and added value to the inherited techniques is our mission.

+LUMBER Story

Hacoa’s second line “+LUMBER”

In 2015, with the concept of "Adding the Charm of Wood," +LUMBER was established as a sister brand of Hacoa. Hacoa products are made primarily from full wood and are crafted by skilled artisans who carve and assemble each pieces. They have mainly been sought after by people who are well-versed in wood.

On the other hand, +LUMBER was created with the aim of making the beauty of wood grain and the comfort of wood more accessible and casual for those who may not be as familiar with wood, including younger generations. The brand fuses the comfort of wood with inorganic materials to create designs that foster attachment.

CHARITY - +LOVER PROJECT -

+LUMBER supports the "Children’s Forest" initiative.
A portion of +LUMBER’s sales is donated to the "Children’s Forest" project, a reforestation movement that involves 4,600 schools worldwide. By planting saplings and nurturing forests, children are developing a love for nature.

The brand aims to raise awareness of activities that promote the growth of environmental resources, such as trees, and hopes to contribute to increasing tree populations around the world.
